Why use it
In a normal section, elements follow one another. In a free section, each one stays where you put it and can overlap another. That's how first screens with text over a photo, collages and accent blocks are made.
How to add it
- In expert mode, open “Add”, then “Sections” and the “Blank” category.
- Choose “Free section”.
How to move things
- Drag an element with the mouse. Resize it from the bottom right corner.
- The arrow keys move the selected element by one unit, with Shift by ten.
- On the right, “Place on the section” sets exact X, Y, width, height, layer and rotation.
- The height of the section itself is set in its settings.
The section area is 1200 units wide on desktop. On a narrower screen everything shrinks together, text included, so the layout doesn't fall apart.
Tablet and phone
Until you change anything on tablet or phone, they show a scaled-down copy of the desktop layout. Move any element on the device you need and it gets a layout of its own: the desktop stays as it was. You can go back to the scaled-down copy in the section settings.
For decoration, use the “Shape” element: a rectangle, a circle or a line.
